There were a few reasons this film caught my eye. The title, the subject matter, the main actor and I have to confess, the artwork on the poster too!
David Dastmalchian is perfect casting as the host of the talk show, Jack Delroy. They've always been way behind their rivals and he's getting to the stage where he will do anything to boost ratings and finally 'win' the ratings war. You've probably seen David before in Ant Man & Ant Man and The Wasp (my favourite line... Baby Yaga) and The Suicide Squad, amongst many others. This is a very different type of role and which suits him so well.
The guests on this particular show are psychic medium Christou (Fayssal Bazzi), parapsychologist author June Ross-Mitchell (Laura Gordon) and the possessed girl Lilly played by Ingrid Torelli. The expert sceptic Carmichael Haig (Ian Bliss), is a hot-headed bully who can only see his point of view, and is there to antagonise and annoy. His character becomes one of the most dislikeable characters in the film, and that includes the demon!
What really drew me was the documentary style and of course viewing it as a TV show. It just makes it feel even more real. (Blair Witch anyone and, of course, the British mockumentary 'Ghostwatch' which had a lot of people fooled for real in 1992. I watched it and they got me for a while too!).
There's a few good jumps, great visuals and at some points, I grabbed for the cushion. For me at least the sign of a good horror! Making me want to hide!
I love a horror which keeps me guessing and has a bit of a turn I really didn't see coming. This certainly has.
I'm really pleased I found this gem of a film. A great addition to my Halloween viewing! Watch only by candlelight and enjoy!
