Uncanny

Sometimes something comes along which you just feel part of, feel like you belong to and that it was made for you.

I've got one word for you.

Uncanny

It's full of weirdness, fun, intrigue and investigations.

Whilst I have to admit that I was slightly late to the Uncanny party (I had family reasons which held my attention for some time), discovering this was just at the right time for me. I have to thank my friend Louise, who knew it was just absolutely perfect for me! It brought me back to one of my lifelong passions - ghosts, the supernatural, things that go 'bump' in the night, and just anything weird and wonderful. The weirder, the better! This list is not exhaustive but it includes a deep fascination with ghosts, time travel, monsters, vampires, werewolves, alternate universes and telekinesis. You get the idea!

Some of my interest in the above comes from believing I grew up in a haunted house and I think my fascination with horror films and stories came from when the babysitter let me stay up and watch Carrie!

Of course, the burning question - am I Team Believer or Team Sceptic?

Team Believer. 100%.

I believe that there is 'something else' there, whatever that may be. I will point out, however, that I am still interested in the sceptic explanations too, which can be equally as fascinating. Sometimes, yes, they do appear to be perhaps the best explanation. I myself, have experienced sleep paralysis. Twice I think. Both terrifying. Both experiences very real.

Podcast and TV show

Do you have a favourite case? It's difficult to pick as with so many different themes. They're all so gripping and fascinating.

Of course Case 1 - The Evil in Room 611. I mean it's coined 'that' phrase that I just use for just about everything now! If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you'll just have to listen and find out!

The Rendlesham UFO. S2. Case 7. I live in Norfolk, so this is local to me and somewhere I've been close to a few times.

Harry Called. S2. Case 10.

Dad's phone. S4. Case 2.

The Platte County Poltergeist. S4. Case 3. What absolutely terrified me about this case, well, most of it did but when she thought she saw her husband at the window...but he was at the car. Chilling.

Book

If you're not listening to the podcasts whilst reading the rest of my blog, you could also be reading Danny's book! Containing more witnesses and investigations and, of course, the usual sceptic and believer views.

Tour

I tried to get tickets for Uncanny Live in Norwich in 2023 but alas it was sold out. So when the second tour went on sale and Ipswich was on the list, that's it, we were going! To say I was excited that day was an understatement. Louise and I met up early, had some drinks and a wander, the biggest pizza you've ever seen and then headed over to the Ipswich Regent. Having a cup of tea opposite the theatre I was (very!) excited to spot Danny and Evelyn about to cross the road opposite us! Danny kindly gestured to make sure I didn't run out into traffic to greet them! Thank you.

Such a brilliant live show. Going along with the same theme of the podcast and TV show and investigating some new cases, this time with the drama being narrated by Danny live on stage. Then going over to the team of experts to take the case from the team believer and team sceptic sides.

Of course if you're into Uncanny then, like me, you may have also listened to the rest of DR's amazing podcasts in the lead up to Halloween and the 'Trilogy of Terror' specials which dropped at the same time.

As I sit here, sipping tea in my 'Team Believer' mug, I'm already planning my next 'Uncanny' blog - the fabulous Uncanny Con which took place on the 8 December at the Southbank Centre.

If you haven't experienced Uncanny yet, then you're missing out on wonderful stories, interesting people and a fantastic community. I dare you not to love it! Just make sure you listen by candlelight, just before bed!

My favourite episode is the live one they did from Hay-on-Wye…. But I’m biased, given I’m being interviewed by Danny in it. 😂

Oh that's brilliant! I'll have to listen to that one again! Did you have a ghost story?
