There are a few films this year which have very much taken me by surprise and I've unexpectedly absolutely loved:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem (yes, you heard correct! It's beautiful, funny, moving, great soundtrack, watch it!);
Rye Lane (Gorgeous independent rom com which you'll find on Disney plus);
Puss in Boots (when Puss ends up in a retirement home for cats...and the endless easter eggs for fairytales are brilliant);
Wonka.
So, yes, it's a blockbuster release but musicals have to go some to really win me over and this really got me. Initally I felt a cross between Mary Poppins, Oliver and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but.... it really is it's own thing.
I don't mind Chalamet, but he's definetly gone up in my estimation after this. The cameos are just priceless. Oliva Colman is just wonderful and Rowan Atkinson has one of the funniest and most unexpected lines in the whole film!
Funny, sweet, touching, brilliant music, delicious baddies. The comic timing is to perfection and if you don't know comedy that is a VERY hard thing to get right and in that perfect sweet spot.
The look and feel is warm, the costumes and sets as delicious as the chocolate looks. Direction is great and the writing sublime. The music just fitted perfectly and some I can't get out of my head, also keeping some old favourites too though!
For me, it just hit that perfect rhythm and beat which had me bouncing out of the cinema. Lovely.😊 I would really really like to go again! 😊
